Opportunity If ......

As we continue to develop as a Lifegroup, we will tend to move in one of three directions. History is very clear about the dynamics of church bible study groups. Groups that are focused on something as important as Biblical truths tend to become very close. This closeness can result in either tremendous opportunity, or unfortunate loss. The three directions that could happen are:

1. The group will not grow but will stay stagnant because of a lack of commitment.
2. The group will grow, but will grow inward and will become dependent on fellowship as its purpose.
3. The group will grow, but will grow outward and will become dependent on ministering to others as its purpose.

The important steps that will determine the direction that a Lifegroup takes are more dependent on how the group starts than on anything else. Change is always possible during the life of the group, but change is always difficult. Setting and establishing the goal and the objectives to be used to achieve that goal should be discussed and accepted at the birthing of the group. This gives opportunity even in the changes that may occur because all changes will be defined relative to the established purpose of the group.

Sometimes we think that setting up ground rules for the group are restrictive, when the truth is that they are actually liberating. It is in this definition that clarity of purpose is maintained.

The question that our Lifegroup has yet to answer is what is our purpose, and what are the things that we will agree to promote and encourage the achievement of that purpose. Your thoughts and input are needed at this time.
